TK.5 lakh for workers` death on duty

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu said that the families of victim will get Tk five lakh as compensation if any worker dies on duty at work place.

The Minister made the disclosure while addressing a conference at Engineers Institution auditorium in city on Wednesday.

He said that the compensation procedure will be effective from January 2017.

The Minister also said that of the amount, Tk 3 lakh will come from the Workers` Welfare Fund (WWF) created last year for the garment sector and Tk 2 lakh from the insurance scheme for workers.

About Tk.17 crore was deposited in the fund, he added.

The government formed the WWF last year for the benefit of garment workers, who get Tk 1 lakh in case of any industrial accident.
